Sublette County Winter Trails

Sublette County offers world class winter recreation on over 20 miles of groomed trails. These trails are open to multiple uses including hiking, snowshoeing and fat biking but are closed to motorized use with the exception of the Skyline Drive Trail. All of the trails are groomed and maintained with county funding via the Sublette County Recreation Board, and with extensive volunteer support and there is no fee for use. While recreating on these trails, please respect the courtesy rules (detailed below). Enjoy and we look forward to seeing you out there!

Grooming Report

April 1st, 2024 9:00 a.m.: This is the final grooming report and no this is not an April Fool’s joke. Here is your final 2023/24 STA nordic grooming report, brought to you by Sublette Trails Association and the Sublette Recreation Board. A fresh foot of snow dumped overnight. Everything in the Skyline Area was groomed this morning except Skyline Drive. Let the groom settle today meaning, stay off of it because it will settle and freeze overnight and will be a very nice firm trail in the morning. Also, consider only utilzing the trails in the morning hours, as we approach the 50 degree mark through the next few days the trail will become very soft and every time a ski, snow shoe, foot print track is imprinted on the trail it will be there for the long term. Keep our trails in good shape as long as possible please. We appreciate Mr. Looney and all the great grooming this year! Thanks for your passion and dedication! See you all out there! Looking forward to a great late season!

Please review the “House Keeping” practices below, we’re all in this together, lets have some fun out there!

Reminder, utilize the STA interactive web map below as the STA grooming report references the interactive map trail names. This map is coded with green, blue and black colors for trail dificullty as it relates to terrain features (e.g. steepness). This map is also available through the “Trail Forks” free device app. Down load “Trail Forks” on your device and check it out, then follow along by way of your device and know where you are on the groomed trails! Pretty sweet!

Wax Recommendations April 2nd, 2024- Glide wax today will be red Toko or purple/red Swix. Kick wax will be difficult as this is very icy snow in the morning and very soft and wet in the afternoon, consider going with fish scales or skins and if you only have kick wax skis go with Toko Red or Swix V45.

Housekeeping: Remember, the Skyline Nordic trail system is non-motorized use, and all are welcome on bikes, snowshoes, boots, shoes…as long as no motor is associated with your mode of travel. (The exception is Skyline Drive which is open to motorized use.) The upper surveyor loops are the practice area for the high school nordic ski team and the nordic ski racecourse for local races so please reserve for ski use only and do not bring your pets. As always if you are skiing with your pets on other trails, please toss poo off the trail. DO NOT LEAVE BAGS IN OR ON THE EDGE OF THE TRAIL. Non-ski users please avoid the middle of the track as this is often the softest portion and most prone to damage, particularly following new snow and during warm temps. Please stay to the side of the trail to preserve grooming. Stay alert for wildlife as critters always have the right of way. Downhill users have the right of way and oncoming uphill users should yield adequate space for the faster downhill use to pass safely. Have fun out there!
